Also known as the cultural capital of kumaon, Almora is a captivating hill station situated on a 5 kilometer long ridge and is about 1653 meter above sea level. Surroundings include the alluring snow clad mountains dotted with dwindling pine and oak trees presenting a mesmerizing and brilliant display of natural beauty and divine aura of the place. The place is rich in handicrafts and multi-cultural cuisines which attract the explorers to keep coming back for more. Winters are really cold ranging from 2 to 15 degrees and summers are cool and pleasant with temperatures hovering around 12 to 28 degree Celsius.
Almora has a whole bunch of places to visit in and around the area, has the famous footprints of Swami Vivekananda at the Ramakrishna Mission. Holy shrines of goddesses Banari Devi, Kasar devi and Sayahi Devi sit atop the mountain ranges surrounding the area. Govind Vallabh pant museum is a favored place to visit by everyone as it showcases the art, craft culture and traditions of the area. Reaching Almora is possible by all three modes of transport. Pantnagar airport is around 115kms from Almora and from there one can get direct taxis. By train one can reach Kathgodam station which is around 83kms away from almora and hire taxi thereafter. Almora is well connected by road too as NH87 runs through it and NH87e is connected with it and so travelling by road is not a hassle at all.
